All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.
The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,
That brightens up the sky.
– Cecil Alexander
While thumbing through a family hymnal, I came across this simple verse by British writer Cecil Alexander, first published in Hymns for Little Children in 1848. The words seemed well-suited for the music I had already started creating. As long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the wonders of the natural world. Time spent outdoors renews my perspective. The expansive space above me, firm ground beneath my feet. These sights and sounds all remind me that I am one among a host of living things. When I look closely, I can’t help but marvel at the intricacies and idiosyncrasies of everything around me.
